How we work

What happened, what it means for you, how sure we are. That is the promise of every story we publish.

What we cover

Free games and real deals, prices and subscriptions, releases, rumors and leaks, player rights (refunds, shutdowns, scams, data breaches, age ratings and parental controls), and the weird side of games. We do not publish guides, esports results, reviews or creator drama.

Where our information comes from

Official sources first: publisher and platform blogs, store pages, rating boards, regulators and published studies. Then newsrooms with a track record, in English and other languages. Every fact is attributed and linked, and we never just rewrite another outlet's story: each article adds something you would not get from the original, such as official regional prices, a second independent source, the time an offer ends in your time zone, or a dated precedent.

When another newsroom breaks an important story and we have nothing to add yet, we publish a short brief that says who reported it first and links to their story. Smaller news goes into The Day in Games: one line each, in our words, with the source.

How sure we are

Official news says “Official”. Anything that is not official says so in the headline, either with Unverified: or with the name of whoever claims it, and every story says how sure we are, with three signal bars:

  • How sure: low (one bar): a single unofficial source with at least one objective sign behind it.
  • How sure: medium (two bars): an established newsroom with its own sources, or two independent unofficial sources.
  • How sure: high (three bars): hard evidence such as a rating board listing or a store database entry, or two independent newsrooms.

When the official answer arrives, we say so on the same page: Confirmed, Partly confirmed, Denied, Debunked or Missed. A post that repeats another post is never a second source.

We never publish personal data from a leak, stolen material or links to it, the identity of a leaker, or spoilers in a headline or image.

Images

When a story is about a game or a device, we show the official artwork or product photo, unchanged except for cropping, with credit to its owner.

Corrections

Mistakes are corrected on the article itself, with the date. See Corrections.

Free games

Our Free right now page lists only games you can really get for free, checked against the store itself, with the end time in five time zones and in yours. No downloadable extras, no giveaways that need another account.

Independence

No platform, publisher or console maker is our team. No company pays for coverage. No ads, no affiliate links, no cookie banner.
